Okay, after installing xubuntu 16.04 and boot for the first time, you might be confused about what to do next, what the first thing you need to do after installing xubuntu 16.04. In this post i will guide you on what i think most important stuff.
1. Enable the canonical partner repository.
The first thing to do, in my opinion is enable the canonical partner repo, you can do this by opening 'Software & Updates' program and then go to tab 'Other Software', make sure the 'Canonical Partners' option is checked.
But why i have to enable this? because there are many useful program/software that lives inside this repo, you won't be able to install these software unless the canonical partner repo is enabled. I don't know why this is not enabled by default, but this is very important.
2. Run the apt-get update
The apt-get update command is very important because it will refresh your repository list, you need to run this command every time you add new software repo such as PPA repo. And for the first time you also need to run this command.
sudo apt-get update
3. Install google chrome
Xubuntu comes with mozilla firefox, but if you are prefer google chrome then you should install it, you can download the google chrome debian package (.deb) from google chrome website.
4. Install adobe flash player
If you decided to use firefox, then you will need to install adobe flash player plugin for web browser, because unlike google chrome, firefox doesn't have a built in flash player.
sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin
5. Install multimedia codecs
For movie lovers you definitely need to install multimedia codecs on your xubuntu, it will make your movie-watching experience a lot better, you can playback various of video and audio format.
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras
6. Install clementine music player
I noticed that xubuntu doesn't come with dedicated music player, it only comes with 'Parole Media Player' which is more like video player than music player to me. So i think installing a music player is a good idea, and clementine is one of my favorite.
sudo apt-get install clementine
